Local Archaeological Digs: Since 2019 we have been working with Wolverhampton Archaeology Group to uncover Albrighton’s medieval past. In 2019 WAG uncovered the Market House which had been set on the Green opposite The Crown Inn. In 2022 WAG were able to search for an earlier market site by the church and uncovered evidence of an earlier road which ran though the church yard and what is now the vicar’s lawn. Alongside this they also found evidence of earlier buildings, perhaps the tithe barn. The next phase will be to look at the White ladies court area close to the church yard.

Archive work: This was disrupted by the advent of covid restrictions. The Society have a number of items which need appraising and cataloguing. We hope to restart this work in the near future. If interested in joining this project contact us using the button above.

War Memorial restoration: The Society is a member of The Albrighton War Memorial Working Group.  The group is part of Albrighton Parish Council and has representation from Donington with Boscobel PC included. (See our publications section). The group (via the PC) have appointed heritage architects, organised various surveys, uncovered key documentation and applied for grants. The plan is to restore the memorial in time for the November 2023 remembrance service.

Village Voices: In 1999 the then chairman, Ron Watson, took part in a millennium project to record key people in the village and thus lay down a historical record. The tapes then sat in Ron’s loft for years. In all 54 tapes were made and one of our projects was to produce transcripts. This was completed by Gaynor Richards from 2019 to 2021. Currently we are now transferring the tapes to digital format. Our plan is to create a book or possibly two books which will capture this amazing archive for all to enjoy.

Armed Services Data Base: This project can be found in the menu above. It aims to record all Albrighton men and women who have served in the Armed forces from the past. If you would like to add anything to the data base please use our contact button and get in touch.
